It was highlighted by CYP with learning disabilities and autism that there are ‘too many missed opportunities’ with regards to support, as well as failing to meet criteria for statutory services.
The autism in school project was a pilot in North Cumbria and the North East, which aims to improve health and care services so that more people can access local support quiclly and efficiently. Due to the success of the pilot, this has been rolled out as a national programme that Darlington Parent Carer Forum are running within a number of local primary and secondary schools. This means that we can support and train parents and carers in various aspects of neurodiversity.
